It cost the government of Dominica\u00a0 $1.2 million to upgrade the Cnefield Airport. We cannot get to the next level and a development as a people with that reality. We have to start thinking big and we\u2019re not saying that we\u2019re not going to see planes coming into Canefield anymore, but we have to try to use Canefield to add more value to our tourism product. And how do we do that therefore?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think our greatest hope as far as tourism development is concerned in Dominica is through cruise tourism and that is why I believe that we have to start looking at the possibility of transforming Canefield Airport into a cruise village. I think that would fit nicely with the tourism and the environment and will add a new impetus to the sector,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>He assured however that the airport will not shut down because of this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNotwithstanding we cannot close down Canefield now. It has to be operated. That\u2019s why I think what\u2019s happening here today is so important \u2026 Already, discussion is being held with some developers looking at the potential of the lot in Canefield into a cruise village,\u201d Blackmoore said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Plans are underway to transform the Canefield Airport\u00a0 into a cruise village.
