Opposition Leader Lennox Linton announces the measures<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Leader of the Opposition, Lennox Linton has announced a series of actions to be taken in furtherance of his party’s campaign to get Prime Minister Skerrit to account for $1.2 billion of Citizenship by Investment (CBI) funds that was not included in the 2019-2020 national budget which Skerrit, as minister for finance, presented to parliament in July.<\/p>\n

The prime minister has revealed that the money was generated under the “housing option” of the CBI Programme and admitted that if it had been included in the budget, the total budget figure would have have been about 1 billion to 1.2 billion dollars more.<\/p>\n

At a public meeting of the UWP on September 6, 2019, Linton gave Skerrit until the 20th<\/sup> of September, 2019 to properly account for the 1.2 billion dollars.<\/p>\n

Linton said at at a news conference on Wednesday afternoon that it has been 56 days since the issue was presented in parliament and there are no answers to the very simple question of the people, \u201cwhere is the money?\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to say that as the parliamentary opposition, sworn to protect the interests of the Dominican people, they are left with no choice but to proceed with the following actions.<\/p>\n

“A peaceful gathering on Victoria Street at 3:00 pm on Monday September 30th<\/sup>, 2019 to present a formal complaint to the President of the Commonwealth of DOMINICA requesting his intervention, a peaceful gathering outside Police Headquarters on Bath road at 3:45 pm on Monday September 30th<\/sup>, 2019 to present a formal complaint to the Commissioner of Police requesting his intervention,” Linton revealed<\/p>\n

He said there will also be a peaceful gathering on the Dame Eugenia Charles Boulevard outside of the High Court at 4:30 pm on Monday September 30th<\/sup>, 2019 to present notification of our pursuit of appropriate legal action to have the missing money deposited in the consolidated fund of Dominica<\/p>\n

Additionally, Linton said, there will be “a campaign seeking the assistance of the US Federal Bureau of Investigations, Britain\u2019s Scotland Yard, Interpol and the EU Financial Intelligence Unit to find the missing $1.2 billion and deposit it in the consolidated fund of Dominica” as well as “a campaign to inform the international community of the refusal of the government of Dominica to account for the missing $1.2 billion.”<\/p>\n

The opposition-initiated actions will also include, “a campaign of civil disobedience all over Dominica until the list of electors is cleaned, ID cards for voting are issued and missing $1.2 billion is properly and completely accounted for.”<\/p>\n

Civil disobedience<\/strong><\/a>, also called passive resistance, is a refusal to obey the demands or commands of a government or occupying power, without resorting to violence or active measures of opposition; its usual purpose is to force concessions<\/a>\u00a0from the government or occupying power.<\/p>\n

Linton vowed that “in this campaign to save the soul of Dominica\u2026 we won’t turn back!\u201d and made it clear that this is not a fight to find Lennox Linton’s money, UWP\u2019s money, Labour Party money, Roosevelt Skerrit’s money or money belonging to Skerrit’s friends at home and abroad.<\/p>\n
