The Dominica Council on Aging or DCOA is on a mission to find more field officers to assist in various districts around the country.<\/p>\n

The organizations President Ophelia Olivacc\u00e9 Marie said only two officers are presently assisting\u00a0\u201cand the\u00a0country is big,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Marie said there are several plans and ideas to help the older people in Dominica but they are being hampered by limited resources.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause they do have the ideas, but they need to work them out so that our seniors will have a better sense of their life,\u201d Marie noted.<\/p>\n

Meantime plans are underway to hold a workshop for elders dubbed, \u201cLove you Seniors\u201d to be held at the University of the West Indies open campus in November.<\/p>\n

The workshop will be held in conjunction with the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development and the UWI Open Campus.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cThere they will be looking at particular issues that affect senior citizens and illnesses that affect them,\u201d Marie explained. \u201cIt\u2019s a way of introducing matters surrounding seniors.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cI am happy that there is so much interest and a willingness to educate ourselves and respect and honour the seniors who have gone ahead of us, but who have so much that they can offer to us.\u201d<\/p>\n

From September 1st to October 1st<\/sup>, the\u00a0DCOA celebrated the \u2018Month of the Elderly\u2019 under the theme: \u201cPioneers of Resilience-The Journey to Age Equality\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cI must say that the \u2018Month of the Elderly\u2019 went pretty well,\u201d she told DNO.<\/p>\n
