{"id":23738,"date":"2010-12-20T13:10:31","date_gmt":"2010-12-20T17:10:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/dno\/?p=23738"},"modified":"2010-12-25T14:21:59","modified_gmt":"2010-12-25T18:21:59","slug":"dominica-freedom-partys-2010-christmas-and-new-year-message","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/homepage\/news\/general\/dominica-freedom-partys-2010-christmas-and-new-year-message\/","title":{"rendered":"Dominica Freedom Party\u2019s 2010 Christmas and New Year message"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_10031\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10031\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10031\" title=\"judithpestaina\" src=\"http:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/dno\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/judithpestaina.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10031\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">DFP Leader Pestaina<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As we prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ and welcome in the New Year, my personal message and that of the Dominica Freedom Party to all Dominicans is that during these celebrations we dedicate some time for some soul searching and introspection.\u00a0 This needs to be done objectively so that we can render to Caesar all that is Caesar\u2019s and to God all that is God\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Christmas is supposed to be a time for Christians to reflect sombrely on the true significance of Christ\u2019s birth, the humble conditions in which he was born and the absence of worldliness, greed and materialism which coloured his life.\u00a0 How things have changed in today\u2019s Society where greed and materialism seem to have overtaken a season which is supposed to be so sacred!<\/p>\n<p>I wonder how many of us truly take time to ponder on the true meaning of Christmas which should signify peace and joy to the world and of course to our nation. However, our nation can only be at peace if we honestly take stock of what has been happening in our country, good or bad and make a conscious effort to make the good better and the bad good.<\/p>\n<p>So we ask ourselves, how can this be done?\u00a0 Can we sincerely celebrate Christmas and ring in the New Year if we are not true to ourselves and to our fellowmen.<\/p>\n<p>Christmas should not be measured by the presents we get or do not get from family, friends or politicians. What really should matter is how we treat one another regardless of what we believe, who we believe or if we believe.\u00a0 Let us therefore try to do what we can within our resources and give without expecting anything in return. Let us give if we really believe that in giving we are expressing our love and concern for those who may be less fortunate than we are not holding them to ransom because they cannot reciprocate.
