Mahira Jno-Baptiste, Dominica\u2019s 2019 Miss Wob intends to change the unpopularity associated with her title.<\/p>\n

Jno-Baptiste told Dominicanewsonline that the Miss Wob Pageant hardly gets any recognition but she intends to change that trend.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring my reign, I would like to do at least two projects.\u00a0\u00a0The first being to invest in a children\u2019s group and young adult cultural group\u201d, she said.<\/p>\n

The other project according to her is to get involved in exercise and local cuisine.<\/p>\n

\u201cI also want to facilitate the teaching of cultural dances and playing of traditional instruments\u2026the goal would be toward their performance at the 2020 independence competitions…\u201d, she added.<\/p>\n

According to Jno-Baptiste, if young people are given a chance, \u201cthey can shine\u201d, because what they really need is \u201cto be guided in the right direction\u201d.<\/p>\n

She said some aspects of Dominica\u2019s culture is on a decline.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring cultural competitions, venues are empty because people have attended political rallies or other entertainment events and also mentioned the bad attitudes some Dominicans share towards each other,\u201d she told our newsroom.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile the Miss Wob has some major plans for her future. She said she intends to study medicine.<\/p>\n

\u201cI intend on becoming a doctor with [a] special focus either in sports, medicine or pathology.\u00a0\u00a0One thing should be clear though, anything I decide my country will be in my heart.\u201d<\/p>\n

Apart from school, Jno Baptiste said she would also like to continue playing the steel pan, learn to play the instruments of the jing ping band and maybe one day participate in the national queen show.<\/p>\n
