Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) Timothy Antoine has strongly encouraged a regional approach to the Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Programme.<\/p>\n
He was speaking during a \u2018Chew on it Luncheon\u2019 held at the Fort Young Hotel on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The luncheon was hosted by the Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC) under the theme: Transforming the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union Together \u2013 Dominica\u2019s Scorecard.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are strongly encouraging a regional approach to our Citizenship By Investment [CBI] Programme,\u201d he said. \u201cWe understand the value of these programmes for the economies.\u201d<\/p>\n
Antoine continued, \u201cIf you think of it from a Dominican concept, where would Dominica be without CBI?\u201d<\/p>\n
According to him the CBI has played an enormous role in Dominica\u2019s remarkable recovery to date.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have to protect it and for us to do that we believe that we ought to come together and have a common approach to due diligence,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n
Antoine further explained that if an application gets denied in Dominica it cannot get approved in Antigua or vice versa, \u201cbecause it is a single space and we have to protect all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n
Antoine mentioned also that pricing is important.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we come together we can probably raise the price and get more from the programme,\u201d he explained. \u201cIf we don\u2019t then we are competing\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
Antoine hopes the CBI lasts for a long time, \u201cbut who knows the future?\u201d<\/p>\n
