Our ancestors were taken by force, out of their native land<\/p>\n
Many lives were lost, before reaching their destination<\/p>\n
They were chained together, and taken to ships<\/p>\n
As animals to the slaughter, driven by whips<\/p>\n
For those who resisted, they jumped overboard<\/p>\n
Not wanting to be sold, refusing to be enslaved,<\/p>\n
\u00a0A ship that was used, carried the very symbol<\/p>\n
Of the cross instituted, by our ancestors\u2019 captors<\/p>\n
As history would have it, the Jesus of Lubeck,<\/p>\n
Was one of the ships, of a captain on deck<\/p>\n
So sad yet so true, they were shackled together<\/p>\n
Laid in their own filth, they were given no water<\/p>\n
They were so forlorn, being Christianised<\/p>\n
They were forced to conform, their spirituality was stripped,<\/p>\n
On the auction block, they were put up for sale<\/p>\n
Considered as livestock, without any choice,<\/p>\n
Families were separated, against their own will<\/p>\n
They were given new names, and new languages<\/p>\n
To the fields they were taken, working hard in the sun<\/p>\n
Their norm was forsaken, as master pointed the gun<\/p>\n
The blood of our ancestors, was spilled to the ground,<\/p>\n
They were given no mercy, many did not utter a sound<\/p>\n
A people so strong, always so resilient<\/p>\n
Who committed no wrong, yet were met with contempt<\/p>\n
In spite of their struggles, they determined to be<\/p>\n
The world\u2019s great warriors, fighting \u00a0to be free<\/p>\n
They have gone on before, but their spirit\u00a0 so alive<\/p>\n
We are reassured, their history is our drive<\/p>\n
So let\u2019s display the talent, they passed on to us<\/p>\n
We should not relent, a history so precious!<\/p>\n
Today as we commemorate, the freedom they fought for<\/p>\n
Let\u2019s not negate, their legacy we\u2019ll keep to the core!!!!!!!!<\/p>\n
