West Indies squad members have departed the Caribbean during the course of this past Thursday and Friday for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh. The final group left from Barbados on Friday night, including newly appointed Test Captain, Kraigg Brathwaite.<\/p>\n

The experienced Test opener expressed confidence that the team will perform well\u00a0in Bangladesh\u2019s home\u00a0conditions.<\/p>\n

He said \u201cWe are\u00a0all\u00a0up for the challenge\u2026 it will be\u00a0a tough series in Bangladesh but we have confidence and we have belief that we will do very well,\u201d Brathwaite said.\u00a0\u201cWe have some members of the squad who will be playing there for the first time so it will be something new to them, but they\u00a0know they have the talent and are capable of performing at this level.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brathwaite has scored three of his eight Test centuries against Bangladesh. He made a career-best 212 in 2014 and had scores of 121 and 110 in the two-match rubber three years ago.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cIt\u2019s about being very clear in our plans, whether when we\u2019re batting or when we\u2019re bowling. We have to know how we want to play \u2026 how we are going to score our runs and how we are going to look for our wickets. Patience will be the key. It\u2019s always very important in the Test format\u00a0and\u00a0especially\u00a0on the pitches in Bangladesh.\u201d<\/p>\n

The tour comprises\u00a0two Test matches,\u00a0as part of the International Cricket Council\u2019s\u00a0(ICC)\u00a0World Test Championship, and\u00a0three One-Day Internationals\u00a0(ODI)\u00a0as part of the ICC\u2019s\u00a0Cricket World Cup\u00a0Super League. The ODIs present the first opportunity for the West Indies to earn Super League points\u00a0which count towards the\u00a0pre-qualification for the\u00a0ICC\u00a0Cricket\u00a0World Cup in 2023.<\/p>\n

All squad members\u00a0returned\u00a0their second\u00a0negative COVID-19 PCR tests\u00a0as part of the established medical protocols\u00a0and have been cleared for travel to Bangladesh. The full squad is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on Sunday.<\/p>\n
