A Grand Bay man, Dimetrie Beix, appeared before Chief Magistrate Candia Carrette-George where bail was denied to him following a charge of possession of 100 live rounds of ammunition at the Canefield airport.<\/p>\n
On March 16, 2021, Beix pleaded not guilty to four charges preferred against him by the Police and Customs.<\/p>\n
According to the charges, it is alleged that the accused on March 11, 2021, at the Canefield airport did import certain ammunition namely 50 rounds of 9 mm and 50 rounds of\u00a0 .40 ammunition without being a holder of a firearm import license.<\/p>\n
He was also charged with concealing\u00a0 the said ammunition in a container holding goods of different descriptions, and false declaration as the accused\u00a0 is said to have knowingly or recklessly made and signed, customs declaration of Dominica Customs and Excise Simplified Declaration Form Waybill #87, which is false material.<\/p>\n
Attorney for Beix, David Bruney, made an application for bail, however, the prosecution objected to the bail application.<\/p>\n
Chief Magistrate Carrette-George then ruled that given the quantity of ammunition that Beix is said to have in his possession, bail was denied. The accused is remanded in custody at the Dominica State Prison.<\/p>\n
