Reported outages of power across the main island of St Vincent on Sunday morning plunged the country into darkness, as massive eruptions occurred at La Soufriere volcano.<\/p>\n

News 784 in St. Vincent is reporting that the loss of power occurred at about 1:00 am on Sunday as heavy rumblings of the volcano could be heard in the the capital Kingstown, located in the south of the island.<\/p>\n

In addition to engulfing blackness, residents had to contend with with heavy ashfall and those in the North of the island closer to the Red Zone said the loud rumblings was deafening. Rain was also reported to be falling across different communities on the island.<\/p>\n

UWI Seismic Unit stated in an update on Saturday night that explosive eruptions and heavy ashfall were expected overnight.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, ash blown across over 100 miles of ocean from the La Soufriere volcano imposed its own darkness on Barbados on Saturday, April 10.<\/p>\n
