Jeff Bellot, CariFeed Proprietor<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

CariFeed Inc., a Dominica registered animal feed company, has officially launched its very first hatchery on the island.<\/p>\n

The hatchery, situated in Salisbury, is expected to benefit residents of that community and the rest of the island.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe started this hatchery because we saw a need to make things easier for the farmers,\u201d Proprietor of CariFeed, Jeff Bellot said while addressing the launching on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cThis hatchery is a huge investment that we have a capacity of 6,480 chicks every 21 day cycle where we can make the broilers and the layer chicks right here in Dominica.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bellot said the goal is to work with the farmers allowing them to place their order in advance and to have the eggs ordered.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt present the layers have been sold out and then we should be able to have more layers on island delivered to farmers on the second week of May and the broilers we do have some more left but we are bringing some more in,\u201d he stated. \u201cThe consistency is there; we do not want to wait until we have no birds available to order.\u201d<\/p>\n

He indicated that it\u2019s going to be a continued process.<\/p>\n

Bellot also said that the company is looking to start manufacturing the feed in Dominica.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope that the raw ingredients will be VAT free,\u201d he noted. \u201cOnce that is completed, we are ready to go.”<\/p>\n

The CariFeed proprietor went to say that the next step is to start a nursery for pigs where the company can breed pigs in Dominica.<\/p>\n

Meantime, Parliamentary Representative of the Salisbury Constituency, Hector John, describes the initiative as a \u201cgreat move\u201d not only for Salisbury but for Dominica in general, \u201cthat people from different parts of Dominica can come to Salisbury and ensure that they can get their chicks and go home the same day.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said also that people will be gainfully employed.<\/p>\n
