The government of Dominica has signed a contract for the reconstruction of the link road between the villages of Good Hope and San Sauveur, on the northeast of the island, which has been closed for thirty-four years.<\/p>\n

This road was constructed in 1964 but in November 1986, it was closed due to a major landslide.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said during the contract signing ceremony which held in Good Hope, the road is being reconstructed to provide safer access to San Sauveur and Petite Soufriere.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a major investment; it will enhance the safety of road users and this will give us an opportunity now to fix the bypass that has been there since 1986,\u201d the prime minister stated.<\/p>\n

He said work started on April 8th<\/sup>\u00a02021.<\/p>\n

Minister for Public Works and the Digital Economy, Senator Cassani Laville said the project reflected a continuation of government’s mandate to build resilient infrastructure.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will continue to create linkages by building roads and bridges and maintaining that infrastructure,\u201d the minister stated. \u201cWe will continue to improve on access by not only patching roads and doing routine maintenance, but we will do like what we have done today, look at creating more efficient linkages to the communities to decrease vulnerability.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said the earth work, all the excavation, all the drainage and laying of tarish will first be done and then they will monitor and conduct more detailed geotechnical investigations which will then inform the type of surface that will be used, “whether it be asphaltic concrete or Portland cement concrete.\u201d<\/p>\n

Apart from the construction works on the roads, Laville also promised a \u201cwell lit road\u201d in that community.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will not leave you with just the road, but we will certainly leave you with a well lit road,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Parliamentary Representative of the Castle Bruce Constituency, Octavia Alfred, said she embraces this project and encouraged everyone to work together.<\/p>\n

The estimated cost f the project is $849,980.<\/p>\n
