Natural risks are becoming more common and powerful, and it has been evident that many are not as prepared to face these risks. Forecasters announced an overactive season for 2021 with over 15 named storms with at least three to five of which are Category 3 and above. As Caribbean Small Island Developing States, our economies are even more at risk, which forces us to increase our awareness about climate change and natural disasters as well as to take action to mitigate these risks.<\/p>\n
The Caribbean Private sector is mostly composed of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) who need to be trained in risk management to reduce the vulnerability of our territories. In light of this, the Network of Caribbean Chambers of Commerce (CARICHAM) presents the sixth episode of its CARICHAM Regional Growth Series: \u201cLeveraging Business Continuity Planning to Enhance Business Resilience for the Hurricane Season and the Impact of Multi-Hazards on the Caribbean\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Webinar takes place on Friday May 21st, 2021 11:00AM-12:30PM (AST) via Zoom. This Webinar is hosted in partnership with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), the ARISE Network (the Private Sector Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies) and McAllister and Craig Disaster Management Inc.<\/p>\n
As Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) is one of the main pillars of action of CARICHAM, the Network is developing a DRR toolkit designed to support the MSMEs in mitigating the effects of risks and climate change on their businesses. The CARICHAM Business Continuity Plan Template and Guide, the Network\u2019s flagship DRR tool, will be introduced at this webinar.\u00a0Additionally, Caribbean businesses will share their good practices in the area of Disaster Risk Reduction, especially in the multi-risk context. It is evident that COVID-19 has certainly impacted Disaster Risk Management, forcing companies to adapt the way they usually deal with crises.<\/p>\n
