Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said his government is ready to get the international airport project \u201coff the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n
He made the announcement while speaking on his weekly \u2018Anou Pale\u2019 talk show on Sunday.<\/p>\n
\u201cYour Dominica Labour Party government is ready to get the international airport off the ground,\u201d he said. \u201cIn the past year we settled on a site in Wesley and acquired property through careful negotiations with land and property owners in the area.\u201d<\/p>\n
Skerrit continued, \u201cWe also created the International Airport Development Company with a fully appointed board of Directors.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said the government will officially sign an agreement with Montreal Management Consultant Establishment to begin the construction of the international airport.<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister further assured his commitment to this project saying that he is convinced that it will open so many new avenues of economic opportunity for Dominica.<\/p>\n
\u201cVarious sectors including tourism and agriculture will be significantly enhanced,\u201d he indicated.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the International Airport Development Company, Samuel Johnson who was a guest on the talk show said the design process which is ongoing \u00a0is focused on all aspects of the airport, \u201cboth on the airside infrastructure and landside infrastructure and that includes everything on the airside.\u201d<\/p>\n
This he said includes; \u00a0the airport buildings, terminal building and apron, the aircraft rescue and firefighting buildings, air traffic control tower, airfield lighting, parking facilities, utilities , drainage, health facilities and quarantine facilities to name a few.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s something I have heard in several meetings.
