{"id":292897,"date":"2022-11-01T11:31:46","date_gmt":"2022-11-01T15:31:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/?p=292897"},"modified":"2022-11-01T11:31:46","modified_gmt":"2022-11-01T15:31:46","slug":"house-fire-claims-life-of-a-17-year-old-boy-from-the-community-of-cottage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/death\/house-fire-claims-life-of-a-17-year-old-boy-from-the-community-of-cottage\/","title":{"rendered":"House fire claims life of a 17-year-old boy from the community of Cottage"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_292898\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-292898\" style=\"width: 425px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-292898\" src=\"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/pexels-pixabay-279979-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"425\" height=\"283\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-292898\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cottage villagers rescued a 16-year-old boy from a house fire, his 17-year-old brother&#8217;s body was found by first responders<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Commonwealth of Dominica police force (CDPF) is investigating the cause of a house fire that claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy from the community of Cottage.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to reports from Acting Inspector, Fixton Henderson, on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at about 4:45 pm villagers of that community noticed that the concrete house was on fire and a 16-year-old mentally challenged boy, Cody Victor who lived there was trapped inside.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe villagers rescued the 16-year-old boy and notified the fire department before the fire engulfed sections of the house,\u201d Henderson revealed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He said fire officers and the police responded, controlled, and extinguished the fire.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, Henderson indicated that the fire caused significant damage to the house and its contents.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe burnt lifeless body of another occupant of the house, Thomason Victor, the 17-year-old brother of Cody Victor who was also mentally challenged was discovered in the house by first responders,\u201d Henderson revealed. He explained that at the time of the fire the two mentally challenged boys were alone in the house.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thomason Victor was examined and pronounced dead by a medical doctor at the scene.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His body is being kept at a funeral home awaiting an autopsy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His brother Cody Victor was treated at the Reginald Fitzroy Armour Hospital and discharged the same day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Investigations continue into the cause of the fire.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CDPF expresses its sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"&nbsp; The Commonwealth of Dominica police force (CDPF) is investigating the cause of a house fire that claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy from the community of Cottage.
