A number of pieces of legislation, most of which are amendments to existing laws to bring more relief to the Dominican population, will be brought before Parliament in February.<\/p>\n
This was according to Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit who was addressing a press conference held recently.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe agenda for 2023, I believe we go to Parliament in the first week of February, and on that day there will be a number of pieces of legislation, most of which are amendments to existing laws bringing more relief to the population,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
This he said includes; the Amendment of the Value Added Tax (VAT) legislation, and the Road Maintenance Levy will be repealed, among others.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had passed a piece of legislation temporarily to reduce the transfer fees where land transactions are concerned,\u201d Prime Minister Skerrit stated. \u201cBased on the positive reaction of the public that measure we did it for one year and we extended it by another year and in the last budget we decided to make it permanent.\u201d<\/p>\n
He continued, \u201cSo we are going to Parliament to make it a permanent feature, reducing on the cost of doing business in Dominica, ensuring that more families can have titles.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister added, \u201cBecause you can have all of the land in the world but if you do not have a title for it in Dominica then it\u2019s of no value to you.\u201d<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, he revealed that \u201cmaybe in March or thereabout\u201d a Parliament session will be dedicated to enacting new legislation where the family is concerned.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere will be a new Maintenance Act that deals with families\u2019 responsibility to each other\u2026,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have to ensure that people take care of their families.\u201d<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Skerrit pointed out that it\u2019s not only about the men who are neglecting their responsibilities to their children, but that children neglecting their responsibilities to their parents will also be part of the legislation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A number of pieces of legislation, most of which are amendments to existing laws to bring more relief to the Dominican population, will be brought before Parliament in February.
