The stage is set for the first-ever Junior Calypso Bouyon Monarch Competition scheduled for today, February 3, at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium Forecourt.<\/p>\n
The show is being organized by the Leo Club of Dominica.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Leo Club of Dominica is proud to host this year, the Junior Calypso Bouyon Monarch, one event, two competitions, two monarchs,\u201d Vice President of the Leo Club Ameka Cognet said while addressing a press conference held recently.<\/p>\n
She continued, \u201cStudents will have the opportunity to display their talents in calypso and bouyon.\u201d<\/p>\n
The students who will participate in the calypso competition are Amelio \u201cKing-Lio\u201d George of the St Mary\u2019s Primary, Jodee-Marie \u201cLuxuriee\u201d Leatham representing the St Martin Secondary School, Bryce \u201cMighty Bryce\u201d Alexander of the Community High School, Ojahro \u201cMighty Kai\u201d Philbert of the Dominica Grammar School, Jairah \u201cMighty Jairah\u201d George representing the Roosevelt Douglas Primary School, Kai \u201cEmpress Kai\u201d Lawrence of the St Luke\u2019s Primary School, Terricia \u201cTeri-C\u201d Lavinier of the Pierre Charles Secondary School, Tyce \u201cMighty T\u201d Faustin representing the St Mary\u2019s Academy, Mersa \u201cMighty M\u201d Andre of the Pierre Charles Secondary School, \u00a0and D\u2019 Andre \u201cD Legend\u201d Rolle representing the Pioneer Preparatory School.<\/p>\n
Those who will compete in the bouyon competition are; Bijon \u201cMighty B\u201d Charles of the St Luke\u2019s Primary School, De Andre \u201cDre\u201d Durand of the Pierre Charles Secondary School, Josiah \u201cDJ Siah\u201d Fagan of the St Mary\u2019s Primary School, Dane \u201cDwavete\u201d John of the Dominica Grammar School, Quan \u201cQuandary\u201d Bunche representing the Community High School and Curnel \u201cMillion Dollar Boy\u201d Charles representing the Goodwill Secondary School.<\/p>\n
Cognet said also that the junior calypsonians and bouyon artists are hard at work, \u201cpracticing their songs and mastering their stage performances.\u201d<\/p>\n
Furthermore, she said last month the club held a successful workshop at the St Mary\u2019s Academy (SMA) to assist participants in that regard.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe participants had the opportunity to interact and listen to calypsonians and bouyon artistes who have played key roles in the musical industry,\u201d Cognet stated.<\/p>\n
She thanked Tasha \u2018Tasha P\u2019 Peltier, Geoffrey Joseph of Triple K International, the reigning Junior Calypso monarch, Malik Darroux, Sheldon \u2018Shelly\u2019 Alfred, and Starsha of the Signal Band for offering their time, knowledge, and skills to the young rising stars.<\/p>\n
There will be guest performances from the NBD flag wavers, calypsonian Shanice, CHS Umoja group, Pashi Walk, and Signal Band.<\/p>\n
Tickets cost $15 for children and $25 for adults. They can be purchased from Leo Club members and participating schools.<\/p>\n
