The defendant, who was said to reside both in Penville and Roseau, stole a number of items from a vacant house in Morne Daniel on March 5, 2011.<\/p>\n
He appeared before a Roseau Magistrate\u2019s court yesterday.<\/p>\n
His charge stated that he stole items which include two pairs of sneakers, sheet sets, a flashlight, a box of matches, two packets of chicken soup, a screw driver, a collection of CDs, an apron, disposable shavers and a padlock. The total value of the items was over $1,000.<\/p>\n
Marcellin was also charged for maliciously causing damage to a door lock costing $110.<\/p>\n
According to the facts of the case at about 12:35 a.m. on the said date, two police officers on mobile patrol in the area spotted Marcellin walking up the Morne Daniel public road with a bag on his back and cutlass in hand.<\/p>\n
The officers stopped him and inquired his reason for being in the area and said he was just walking.<\/p>\n
When a search was convened all the said items were found in the defendant\u2019s bag.<\/p>\n
Marcellin brought the officers to the house he had taken the items and demonstrated how he had used his cutlass to open the door lock.<\/p>\n
\u201cFather, I know I wrong to go inside the person place,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In mitigation Marcellin told the magistrate, \u201cPlease have mercy on me.\u201d<\/p>\n
The magistrate replied, \u201cWhy should I have mercy on you? I am looking at your conviction card and you seem to love Stockfarm so I will send you were you love.\u201d<\/p>\n
She further advised, \u201cYou cannot waste your life like that- in and out of prison.\u201d<\/p>\n
