The Sineku Primary School, in the Kalinago Territory, hosted a day for fathers to interact with their sons in a positive way, which can be for some fathers the beginning of a transformation or a change of attitude towards their sons.<\/p>\n

\u201cPositively transforming today\u2019s boys into tomorrow\u2019s successful men\u201d, was the theme for the day\u2019s event.<\/p>\n

Teachers deplore the fact that some fathers are not taking an active part in the life of their sons and have decided to do something about it. Reportedly, for PTA meetings; only mothers attend, for school activities, only mothers show up and even when boys get into trouble at school, only mothers present themselves in the principal\u2019s office to address the problem.<\/p>\n

However, teachers are aware of the struggle that young men are facing in the community but specifically in the Sineku
\nHamlet. A teacher commented that it looks like our men are lost and unsure of themselves.<\/p>\n

Most men today lack confidence only because a piece of the puzzle is missing. The missing piece is mentorship. Some men were never mentored into adulthood and today, they have no idea how to mentor their own sons.<\/p>\n

A coordinating committee was put in place to ensure the execution of all plans. Marcia Burton as overall coordinator, Alexia Burton for entertainment, and Verona Tyson for food and drinks.<\/p>\n

The day began with a church service followed by interaction between fathers and sons. Calypso King was present and entertained the audience with his singing. Also, Adicia Burton, Miss Dominica made her appearance felt by her graciousness.<\/p>\n

In the afternoon, fathers engaged their sons in either indoor or outdoor games on the school grounds. This provided an opportunity for sons to see a different side of their father. Hopefully, this will open the sacred space for continued bonding between father and son.<\/p>\n

Miss Burton feels that the school can only play a small part in facilitating a positive relationship for a positive transformation to happen in the family and in the community.<\/p>\n

The teachers are very grateful for the support received from the sponsors, the parents, and the fathers who turned out to be with their sons. It was an amazing day. The school is soliciting sponsorship for its upcoming sports day on April 5, 2023.<\/p>\n
