Jolly\u2019s Pharmacy is all set to host the fourth edition of its National Wellness 5K run this Saturday (March 25), to raise funds for three (3) medical Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) in Dominica.<\/p>\n
The event is expected to begin at 3:30 PM from the Massacre-Canefield Government School and climax at Lindo Park.<\/p>\n
Public Relations Officer (PRO) at Jolly\u2019s Pharmacy, Carlton Lanquedoc, who spoke to DBS Radio during a live interview this week, said participants will run\/walk for either stroke, lupus, or dialysis\/kidney failure.<\/p>\n
\u201cJolly\u2019s Pharmacy is once again collaborating with some of our NGOs here,\u201d he said. \u201cYou would have heard the Prime Minister [alluding] to the fact that CNCDs is a major challenge for Caribbean leaders and the world by extension, in terms of not just medication and treatment, but also diagnosis.\u201d<\/p>\n
He continued, \u201cBecause you would recognize that some of these diseases require special machinery, equipment, and procedures to get them properly diagnosed, and that in itself brings up the health bill.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lanquedoc stated that he initiated this run about four years ago because he saw these events happening in other Caribbean islands and said, “why can\u2019t this be done in Dominica?\u201d<\/p>\n
He further explained that Jolly\u2019s Pharmacy used the opportunity to sensitize the public on that particular medical mission to raise funds for these particular conditions through the NGOs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis time around what we have done is, collaborated with three NGOs that focus on medical conditions: the RayAsta Foundation which focuses on stroke, the Dominica Dialysis Association, which deals with kidney failure and the Lupus Foundation of Dominica,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
He encourages people who can\u2019t run to walk.<\/p>\n
\u201cOnce you are actively, physically involved at moving we consider it that you\u2019ve run.”<\/p>\n
Lanquedoc said those who are interested in joining the walk\/run on Saturday are asked to register at any of the locations of Jolly\u2019s Pharmacy.<\/p>\n
A minimum of EC$25 is required.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, he pointed out that those who wish to donate more can do so.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you are registering, indicate which of the foundations that you want to support,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n
Participants who are running\/walking for stroke are advised to wear the colour red, for lupus wear purple and dialysis\/kidney failure wear orange.<\/p>\n
