Some of the major characters of plays written and directed by the late Cultural Icon, Dr. Alwin Bully, will come back to life when former members of the People’s Action Theatre (PAT) reunite in a virtual tribute to their hero on Saturday, March 25.<\/p>\n
The tribute which will begin with an official recognition of the Bully Family for Dr. Bully’s contribution to the development of the theater movement in Dominica and the rest of the Caribbean, will be followed with a short presentation by Historian Dr Lennox Honychurch on Dr. Bully’s life and the theater.<\/p>\n
\u201cBasically it\u2019s the past members of PAT, members I haven\u2019t seen for over 30 years, we are getting in contact with them so they could give a contribution through performance in the different plays, for instance Streak, Good Morning Miss Millie, The Ruler and Nite Box, to name a few,\u201d one of the organizers of the tribute, Derek \u2018Rah\u2019 Peters told Dominica News Online (DNO) during an interview on Friday. \u201cThey will do a tribute and maybe do a part in the play\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
Peters added that although Dr. Bully will be will be long gone, he will be remembered for one of his major contributions which will outlive anything else and that is \u201cdesigning the national flag of Dominica.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was a great patriot and believed in Dominica; he spoke about the culture and the whole lifestyle of Dominicans,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
On behalf of those who worked with the Cultural Icon in the past through arts and culture, Peters extends condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the late Dr. Alwin Bully.<\/p>\n
Cast members of Alwin’s repertoire of blockbuster plays such as Good Morning Miss Millie, Streak, The Ruler, The Nite Box, Folk Nativity, Jesus Christ Superstar, Pio Pio and Green Gold among others, will have the opportunity to relive the exciting moments going back to the 1970’s when the People’s Action Theatre entertained the Dominican people with high quality theatrical performances.<\/p>\n
“The former members of the People’s Action Theatre are proud and thankful of having been given the opportunity to share those life changing experiences with Alwin and Anita,” according to a statement from the group. “We consider Saturday’s virtual Tribute to be a humble gesture of appreciation to Alwin and ask Dominicans and the rest of the Caribbean to join us as we pay homage to Our National Hero Dr. Alwin Anthony Bully.”<\/p>\n
