{"id":303962,"date":"2023-06-12T13:29:26","date_gmt":"2023-06-12T17:29:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/?p=303962"},"modified":"2023-06-13T15:03:54","modified_gmt":"2023-06-13T19:03:54","slug":"world-championship-cricket-coming-to-dominica","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/homepage\/news\/world-championship-cricket-coming-to-dominica\/","title":{"rendered":"World Championship cricket coming to Dominica"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_303964\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-303964\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-303964 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-8-642x442.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"441\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-303964\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Windsor Park Sports Stadium<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On Monday, June 12, Cricket West Indies (CWI) officially announced the match schedule and venues for the highly anticipated West Indies versus India Men\u2019s Series in July and August and Dominica will be hosting one of the matches.<\/p>\n<p>The series will start with two Test matches as part of the 2023-2025 ICC World Test Championship, and Windsor Park in Dominica will host the first Test match from July 12-16.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are delighted to be able to confirm the schedule and venues for the highly anticipated visit by India,&#8221; Johnny Graves, CEO of CWI, said in officially announcing the schedule. At a press conference in May, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit announced that the West Indies Cricket Board wrote to the Government of Dominica inviting it to submit a bid to host a Test match, to which the government agreed.<\/p>\n<p>Skerrit said the government will be making a contribution of US$250,000 to the CWI for Dominica to host the Test.<\/p>\n<p>He went on to say that this was done to &#8220;spur economic activities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So the hotels are going to be filled,&#8221; he stated.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The restaurants are going to make money, the taxi operators are going to be making money, the bus drivers are going to make money to carry people &#8230; so it&#8217;s all in an effort to encourage economic activity in the country.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The second Test match, to be played from 20-24 July at Queen\u2019s Park Oval in Trinidad, will be historic, marking the 100th Test match played between the two teams.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One of the highlights will be the 100th Test at the Queen\u2019s Park Oval and this promises to be a fantastic occasion as we celebrate this historic event between these two proud cricketing nations,&#8221; Graves said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Windies team also looks forward to hosting India in the white ball fixtures and welcoming fans from across the region and the United States.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It will be 18 days of entertainment for cricket lovers to enjoy and savour&#8221;, he stated. According to the CWI, the two Tests will be followed by three CG United One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and five T20 Internationals (T20Is).<br \/>\nThe CG United ODI Series will start at Kensington Oval in Barbados with the first and second matches on July 27 and 29.<\/p>\n<p>The CG United ODI Series concludes on August 1, at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad which will be hosting a West Indies Men\u2019s ODI for the first time. Following the ODI Series will be the T20Is bowl-off at Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Antigua on August 3.<\/p>\n<p>Guyana hosts the second and third T20Is at the Guyana National Stadium on August 6 and 8.
