Today on June 19th the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission joins the global community in observing World Sickle Cell\u00a0 Day, under the theme “Building and Strengthening Global Sickle Cell Communities, Formalizing New-born Screening and Knowing your Sickle Cell Disease Status.”<\/p>\n<\/header>\n

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is\u00a0a group of inherited red blood cell disorders<\/a>\u00a0and is prevalent in the OECS, significantly affecting individuals and families both medically and socially. These challenges often require ongoing medical care and specialized treatment. This international awareness day highlights the challenges faced by individuals living with SCD and emphasizes the need for collective action to support affected persons as well as to promote research and\u00a0education.<\/p>\n
