{"id":306521,"date":"2023-08-09T07:30:12","date_gmt":"2023-08-09T11:30:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/?p=306521"},"modified":"2023-08-09T01:35:18","modified_gmt":"2023-08-09T05:35:18","slug":"carpha-and-french-caribbean-public-health-organisations-discuss-further-collaboration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/homepage\/carpha-and-french-caribbean-public-health-organisations-discuss-further-collaboration\/","title":{"rendered":"CARPHA and French Caribbean public health organisations discuss further collaboration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_306522\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-306522\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-306522 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/image002-642x371.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"370\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-306522\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">CARPHA Executive Management Team and Staff, and representatives of public health institutions of the French Caribbean Overseas Regions<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0On Wednesday 2<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0August 2023, an engagement meeting between the Caribbean regional agency for public health, CARPHA, and various public health institutions of the French Caribbean Overseas Regions took place in Trinidad and Tobago.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The hybrid meeting was the culmination of 5 years of cooperation efforts, supported through funding of the Agence Fran\u00e7aise de D\u00e9veloppement\u00a0(AFD), and included representatives from the Sant\u00e9 Publique France \u2013 Antilles (the Caribbean office of the French Public Health Agency); Agences R\u00e9gionales de Sant\u00e9 (ARS) in Martinique, Guadeloupe, and French Guiana (French governmental agencies responsible for healthcare organization, local health promotion and development, and public health security in their relevant territories); as well as the Centres Hospitaliers Universitaires (CHU or University Hospitals) of Martinique, and Guadeloupe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chair of the meeting, Dr. Lisa Indar, Director, Surveillance, Disease Prevention and Control Division, CARPHA welcomed delegates\u00a0stating \u201dThis\u00a0meeting demonstrates the special relevance of public health cooperation in our small region, with geographic proximity of the French Outermost Regions to our CARPHA Member States, and with shared cultural and environmental risk factors and similar disease burdens that create opportunities for joint action.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mr. Jacques Rosine, Sant\u00e9 publique France agreed, saying \u201cThe countries of the Caribbean share a common history, a common geography,\u00a0and also\u00a0health risks that are, [in some cases], different from those that may affect other regions of the world and specifically Europe, including France. For us, the French territories,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0essential to be able to work with [CARPHA and its Member States] and develop areas of cooperation in\u00a0a number of\u00a0fields.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The meeting took stock of the numerous cooperation efforts and successes during the period 2019-2023 and identified priority areas for future collaboration and exchanges; including next steps for action.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In her opening remarks, CARPHA\u2019s Executive Director Dr. Joy St. John said \u201dOur French colleagues have been sharing surveillance information, technical guidelines especially in quality Cancer Registration, presenting research at the CARPHA Conference, working with us as we explore challenges and lessons learned, among other actions.\u00a0\u00a0CARPHA was pleased to sign a Memorandum of Agreement last year to formalize a maturing relationship.\u00a0\u00a0As we meet today to advance these relationships, we look forward to understanding the priorities for collaboration and exchange.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The meeting heard clear reiteration of commitment from CARPHA and the French Caribbean regional public health institutions towards advancing partnerships for regional public health, with all parties agreeing on the driving forces and needs for closer cooperation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ms. Anne Bruant-Bisson, Executive Director of the ARS Martinique stated: \u201dIn the aftermath of the pandemic that affected healthcare organizations and all public policy actors, the road towards establishing a lasting institutional partnership in our daily practices still is a long way to go.
