The Dominica Cancer Society (DCS) will hold its annual \u2018Walk For Cancer Care\u201d on Saturday, October 7, 2023. The<\/span> event is one of the main fundraisers for cancer patients who find it difficult to pay for their treatment. The walk will commence at 4:00 p.m. at various locations.<\/p>\n

President of the DCS, Yvonne Alexander, who was delivering remarks at the launching ceremony held at the Alliance Francaise on Wednesday said a new route was added to the walk this year making it easier for those persons who are unable to walk the longer routes.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a new route added from Palm Grove and that route was added because there were some patrons who wanted to walk but felt that the Massacre and Pointe Michel route were a bit long for them,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

According to Alexander, the commencement point for this walk will be out of the Alliance Francaise building in Bath Estate, \u201cwalk up to Palm Grove and then back down to Windsor Park Sports Stadium.\u201d<\/p>\n

She encourages individuals to join the walk wherever they can. Furthermore, Alexander revealed that the walk that normally commences in Massacre in the vicinity of Mams Supermarket will now commence in the vicinity of the Catholic Church in Canefield.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe traditional starting point in Pointe Mitchel will be maintained, so individuals will walk from the vicinity of the Pointe Michel cemetery to Loubiere, Newtown, down Victoria Street, down towards the Bayfront, and to the Windsor Park Sports Stadium for the closing ceremony,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

She went on to state that similar to last year there will be a walk in the Portsmouth area.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are a number of patrons from the north who would like to participate,\u201d Alexander stated.<\/p>\n

The walk commences at the Bell Hall Beach area then through Lagoon and some of the other streets in Portsmouth and culminates at the Benjamin Park. She encourages everyone to support the walk. This year the colours of the T-Shirts for the walk will be pink and blue. The\u00a0T-shirts only cost EC$40 with the words “Walk of Hope for Cancer Care. ”<\/p>\n

The walk will be held under the theme: \u201cClosing the Care Gap\u201d.<\/p>\n

Meantime, Dominica Cancer Society Youth Arm presented four students with scholarships to help meet their financial needs during the new academic year. They are Sarai Ravaliere, Joshua George, Brielle Samuel, and Sarah Harve.<\/p>\n

The Youth Arm of the DCS awards scholarships to students who are directly or indirectly affected by cancer.<\/p>\n
