A new bakery opens for operation in Crayfish River, Salybia, and is hoping to be competitive in the market by producing bread of a higher quality than what is being served by other bakers. This bakery called \u201cVanz Bakery\u201d came about as a result of a loan through the Kalinago Development Fund (KDF) which was introduced in March 2022 to the Kalinago people by the Government of Dominica. This fund stands as a financial body, administered by the AID Bank, which would be responsible for providing access to loans for development in the Kalinago space. As most people already know, it is extremely difficult for any Kalinago to qualify for a loan from any financial Institution because of the lack of collateral.<\/p>\n
That in-it-self retards development while other communities throughout Dominica can advance in Development in
\neducation, housing, agriculture, and manufacturing because of land security. This is precisely why the Kalinago Development Fund was initiated so that entrepreneurship can blossom and poverty can be lessened to a certain degree.<\/p>\n
The owner of Vanz Bakery had a vision to start his own business and decided to take advantage of the Kalinago Fund. Having been successful in securing the loan, the business started with two employees. His dream was to be competitive in a market that was already booming with the sale of bread from bakers all over the country. For some unknown reason, a number of bread vendors would come to the Territory to do business. At this point many conscious-minded Kalinagos are now asking the question, are these vendors helping to sponsor any projects in the Kalinag Space? Are they coming to \u201csell their bread, and leaving the Territory with hundreds of dollars and would never look back to help any cause\u201d said a villager.<\/p>\n
Vanz Bakery is aware of the challenges for small business initiatives, and that is limited budget and resources. However, the \u201cbakery business can be considered recession-proof\u201d because people need to eat and bread will always sell on the market. Vanz Bakery will produce different flavored breads such as cassava, pumpkin, and others. In the future, pastries will be added to its products.<\/p>\n
The manager of Vanz Bakery is thankful to the Kalinago leaders who have fought and negotiated for the realization of this Development Fund and to the Prime Minister and Government of Dominica for its approval.<\/p>\n
