Roseau, Dominica, September 19, 2023: <\/b>The President of Dominica, His Excellency Charles A. Savarin, SAH, DAH, GCCO, is heading Dominica\u2019s delegation to the 78th\u00a0Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York from September\u00a018 to 26, 2023.<\/p>\n

The session is being held under the theme \u201cRebuilding Trust and Reigniting Global\u00a0<\/i><\/b>Solidarity: Accelerating Action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable\u00a0<\/i><\/b>Development Goals Towards Peace, Prosperity, Progress and Sustainability for\u00a0<\/i><\/b>all.\u201d <\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

World leaders meet at the UN Headquarters every September to debate key\u00a0developmental issues affecting Member States. This year, discussions focus on climate\u00a0finance and mitigation and will explore solutions to advance peace, security, and\u00a0sustainable development.<\/p>\n

President Savarin will address the General Assembly on the morning of Thursday,\u00a0September 21, 2023.<\/p>\n

His Excellency delivered an address to a High Level Political Forum on Sustainable development on behalf of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on Monday,\u00a0September 18 and called for urgent action from the international community to reform\u00a0the international financial architecture and ensure an enabling environment for\u00a0developing countries to actively participate in and benefit from the global economy. He stated that CARICOM\u2019s support for gender equality, empowerment of women and\u00a0girls, reduction in domestic poverty, access to clean water and sanitation, food and\u00a0energy security and the use of technology is a transformative tool for economic growth.<\/p>\n

Dominica\u2019s delegation to UNGA 2023 includes First Lady Mrs. Clara Savarin, Spouse of\u00a0the President; Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade and Energy,\u00a0Honourable Dr. Vince Henderson; Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign\u00a0Affairs, International Business, Trade and Energy, Mrs. Barbara Dailey; and Dominica\u2019s\u00a0Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Kelver Darroux.<\/p>\n

In absence of President Savarin from the State, His Excellency Hubert J.
