Over 2940 public officers will benefit from the government’s new salary structure this month.<\/p>\n
This was according to Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit who was speaking at a press conference this week.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs announced by the Minister of Finance in the 2023-2024 Budget, the government of Dominica has approved recommendations coming from the completed organizational review of reclassification of the public service,\u201d he said. \u201cI am pleased to announce that as of this month September, the new salary structure approved by the cabinet will come into effect.\u201d<\/p>\n
He pointed out that under the new structure salaries for employees at all levels would be increased with the exception of level 1 which remains unchanged.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis means that just over 2940 public officers will benefit from the new salary structure in the first phase resulting in an overall increase of 6 percent with some public officers benefiting up to 13 percent increase in salaries,\u201d Skerrit explained.<\/p>\n
Moreover, he stated that this results in an increase to the government\u2019s wage bill by an estimated $9 million annually.<\/p>\n
He went on to state that those public officers who will benefit from this new salary structure include: essential service providers, teachers and principals, police officers, fire officers, doctors, nurses, environmental health officers, and others who serve on the frontline of the public sector, providing key services to members of the public at critical times.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, I\u2019m pleased to announce that this month-end these public officers and their families will be better off and better able to take care of their commitments,\u201d Skerrit stated.<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister said this reflects the government\u2019s policy to do all it can even in difficult economic periods to improve the lives of all our citizens.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Over 2940 public officers will benefit from the government’s new salary structure this month.
