The government of Antigua and Barbuda has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for the country as TS Philippe approaches the Leeward Islands. The National Hurricane Center advises those in the northern Leeward Islands to keep an eye on the system’s progress as further tropical storm watches or warnings may be necessary later in the day.<\/p>\n
As of 1100 AM AST (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Philippe was located at latitude 16.1 North and longitude 58.7 West.<\/p>\n
It is moving westward at a speed of 7 mph and is expected to move in a west-northwestward to northwestward direction today and tonight.<\/p>\n
On Monday, it is expected to turn toward the northwest with an increase in forward speed, and on Tuesday, it will move northward.<\/p>\n
According to the forecast, the center of Philippe will pass close to or just northeast of the northern Leeward Islands on Monday and Monday night.<\/p>\n
It currently has maximum sustained winds of 50 mph (85 km\/h) with higher gusts. There is little predicted change in strength for the next 48 hours, but it could intensify significantly in the middle of the week.<\/p>\n
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 170 miles, primarily east of the center.
