Rianna Patterson, the founder of the Dominica Dementia Foundation, has created a documentary titled \u201cDementia: The Island Journey\u201d. The film aims to challenge ageism in the media by celebrating Caribbean elders and offering fresh perspectives and holistic approaches to dementia. The documentary features voices from Dominica, Barbados, and Anguilla.<\/p>\n

The film has been selected for screening at the Timehri Film Festival in Guyana and the 1261 Film Festival in Grenada. The Timehri Film Festival offers an online screening option, making the documentary accessible from October 30th to November 3rd on their\u00a0website<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

The 1261 Film Festival is a platform that celebrates cultural diversity through film and storytelling. Now in its 5th season, the festival has become a key player in bolstering the Grenadian Film and Creative community. It encourages resource sharing, education, and artistic collaboration, providing creatives with an opportunity to showcase their work and network with others in the field.<\/p>\n

The documentary has been submitted to film festivals across the Caribbean, Africa, Europe, and the US.<\/p>\n

Rianna Patterson expressed her delight at the positive reception of the documentary by the Caribbean diaspora. She said, “I made this film with our community in mind. It is a pleasure to have this screened in the Caribbean and share knowledge of dementia in this way.\u201d<\/p>\n
