Motorists and other road users are being advised to exercise extreme caution when traversing the road. This was according to Minister for National Security Rayburn Blackmoore during a live interview on State-Owned Radio DBS on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Several roads and communities were affected due to the passage of Tropical Storm Phillipe.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile a decision was not taken to suspend work, based on the current situation and how vulnerable it is in terms of the possibility of landslides and floods and fallen rocks, it is absolutely important for motorists and other road users to continue to exercise extreme caution when traversing our roads,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cQuick action will be taken to clear our roads in the areas where we have experienced landslides.\u201d<\/p>\n

He told the public that operators of heavy pieces of equipment were actually placed on standby.<\/p>\n

According to Blackmoore, his ministry is working from the Office of Disaster Preparedness in close collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works and they have been mobilized to ensure that if there are any blockages they can be cleared to facilitate traffic flow and to further enhance the safety of road users.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, he said that it is important for individuals whether in their home setting, environment, or community level to be as cautious as possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe onus is on us as individuals to be very cautious as we protect ourselves,\u201d he advised.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cLet\u2019s hope we can continue to protect ourselves and exercise caution\u201d<\/p>\n

Blackmoore mentioned also that it is important for fisherfolk to secure their boats, motors, and other equipment used for fishing.<\/p>\n

Meantime, he noted that damage assessments are being done and a more accurate update will be provided to the public later.<\/p>\n
