Attorney General Levi Peter\u2019s return to Parliament on November 10, 2023, has evoked outrage and criticism from Rosie Sparks Women, a women\u2019s rights organization in Dominica. The group has condemned what it says is the government\u2019s alleged racist and abusive behavior towards women and girls, particularly the indigenous Kalinago community.<\/p>\n

Levi Peter had previously made a public apology to Mrs. Anette Sanford following an incident in Parliament on September 27th where, in criticizing the parliamentary opposition’s decision to nominate her for the position of President, he referred to her as a “drumstick”.<\/p>\n

According to a press statement released by Rosie Sparks Women, Peter\u2019s conduct in Parliament was \u201cracist, abusive and shameless,\u201d particularly towards women and girls, including the indigenous Kalinagos of Dominica.<\/p>\n

However, instead of the expected resignation, Peter withdrew his apology, leading to further outrage. His actions have been described as a violation of parliamentary decorum and professionalism, and are seen as detrimental to the political aspirations of young women in Dominica.<\/p>\n
