Fifty-seven (57) young entrepreneurs in Dominica are now equipped with the business skills and mindset to create opportunities for themselves. This was according to the Minister of State in the Ministry of Culture, Youth, Sports and Community Development, Senator Oscar George\u00a0who was addressing the Dominica Youth Business Trust (DYBT) 19th Graduation and Awards Ceremony held at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium this week.<\/p>\n

This brings the total number of trained entrepreneurs to 1,560.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese young entrepreneurs have become eligible to access the loan guarantee facility at the Dominica Youth Business Trust of up to $20,000,\u201d George said. \u201cFurthermore, they are more equipped with the business skills and the mindset to create opportunities for themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cThis is a big step in the right direction for each of you and we are all very happy for your success.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moreover, he said the DYBT was conceived to address the problem of unemployment of the youth, because in 2004 under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, this government collaborated with the Commonwealth Secretariat to develop the DYBT.<\/p>\n

He went on to state that in Dominica through countless interventions made by this government, \u201cwe are positioning our entrepreneurs to not just survive, but thrive; create waves of positive change that resonate across our society.\u201d<\/p>\n

George mentioned also that youth entrepreneurship is critical for the advancement of our country.<\/p>\n

\u201cEntrepreneurship is not just about creating businesses, it\u2019s about empowering young people to turn their passion, skills, and ideas into realities,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that Dominica\u2019s young entrepreneurs play a critical role in addressing some of the world\u2019s biggest challenges such as poverty, climate change, and inequality.<\/p>\n

However, George said the reality is that starting a business can be very challenging for young entrepreneurs, especially in the early stages.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is why this government continues to place strategic emphasis on equipping you, our young people, with the skills to succeed as young entrepreneurs,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Meantime, DYBT Coordinator Phillip Rolle said the trust takes pride in providing support, inspiration, and guidance to young entrepreneurs in Dominica.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal is to transform young job seekers into job creators,\u201d he said. \u201cOur commitment extends beyond merely establishing businesses, it is about empowering young individuals, to transform their passion, skills, and ideas into tangible realities\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cIn doing so they can contribute economic growth, generate employment opportunities, and provide the essential goods and services to their communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said at the DYBT a lot of focus is placed on training and it continues to be a key focus for us.<\/p>\n

\u201cThroughout the period we were able to host a total of four successful programs\u2026,\u201d Rolle revealed.<\/p>\n
