Photo: Rajib Dhar\/The Business Standard<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Dominica has received an Honorary Consul to Bangladesh with the appointment of Zareen Karim by that country&#8217;s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n<p>Karim received her letter of appointment on Saturday, February 24, from the Foreign Ministry&#8217;s Chief of Protocol officer, Nayem Uddin Ahmed, at State Guest House Meghna.<\/p>\n<p>She was quoted by The Business Standard, a business newspaper in Bangladesh of which Karim is the Chairman, saying that her appointment marks a new era of relationship between Dominica and Bangladesh.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My primary target is to expand business and tourism,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>She also expressed her gratitude to The Business Standard about her new role.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am honored and blessed for being the Honorary Consul and look forward to working together with the Commonwealth of Dominica to expand and promote Bangladesh at different levels,&#8221; she remarked.<\/p>\n<p>She said the journey towards receiving the new role took nearly two years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nearly two years ago, the Commonwealth of Dominica offered me the position of their Bangladeshi Consulate. In line with that, we applied to the Government of Bangladesh,&#8221; she explained.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Though it took some time to obtain various clearances from the Bangladeshi government, today we have received the NOC from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Zareen Karim is a Director of ORION, one of the largest conglomerates in Bangladesh. She is also the Managing Director of Orion Pharma Limited and the Director of Orion Infusion Limited and Orion Footwear Limited.<\/p>\n<p>According to The Business Standard her responsibilities as Honorary Consul of Dominica &#8220;representing the Commonwealth of Dominica on all consulate and diplomatic matters, exploring trade and business opportunities between Bangladesh and Dominica, and fostering cultural, business, and tourism exchanges between the two nations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to diplomacy.edu, Honorary Consuls are &#8220;typically local citizens of the host country with careers outside of official diplomacy. They promote economic, cultural, and educational ties between the two countries.
