{"id":319372,"date":"2024-03-22T08:00:07","date_gmt":"2024-03-22T12:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/?p=319372"},"modified":"2024-03-22T10:22:17","modified_gmt":"2024-03-22T14:22:17","slug":"uwp-economic-conference-set-for-june-4-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/governance\/uwp-economic-conference-set-for-june-4-6\/","title":{"rendered":"UWP economic conference set for June 4-6"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_319373\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-319373\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-319373 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Dr.-Thomson-Fontaine-DNO-Photo-e1711068283518-642x993.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"990\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-319373\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">UWP leader Dr Thomson Fontaine<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The United Workers Party (UWP) Team Dominica has announced the date for its major economic forum this year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leader of the UWP, Dr. Thomson Fontaine said the event is set for June 4 to 6, and the party will focus on plans and ideas for serious growth in the economy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe are going to sit together, we will be inviting the government, the private sector, everybody,\u201d he said. \u201cWe want to sit and discuss and plan the best way forward for Dominica.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Fontaine continued, \u201cWe are about Dominica and Dominicans and we want the best for Dominica. we need your support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During a press conference held in February this year, Dr. Fontaine called on the general public to participate in the event.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u201cWe will have an exhibition that showcases what is being manufactured here in Dominica and really give an opportunity to bring together both possible investors and those who want to do business in Dominica,\u201d he explained. \u201cBecause what we are really trying to do even outside of government is to do something that can stimulate some form of economic activity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He believes that presently Dominica\u2019s economy is in a very poor state, \u201cpeople are hurting and they are suffering, and the more jobs that can be created [the better].\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In terms of a presenters list, he said the party will target some key persons in the different sectors of the economy, including the hotel sector, the tourism industry, and business owners.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe are looking at really making it a huge event that can really be impactful in terms of bringing some focus on Dominica\u2019s economy,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A venue for the conference will be announced later.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The United Workers Party (UWP) Team Dominica has announced the date for its major economic forum this year.
