The Dominicans at UVI is a group of Dominicans who attend the University of the Virgin Islands. It is our every intention to live up to our theme \u2013 \u201cFrom the Isle of Beauty we strive for unity, we hold our heads up high, Dominicans at UVI\u201d.<\/p>\n
Therefore, we will be holding a poetry contest for Dominican high school students.<\/p>\n
The theme of the contest is \u201cDominica, past and present\u201d.\u00a0 Students who wish to participate must be between the ages of 12 and 17.\u00a0 Poems should:
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0not be more than two typed pages;
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0typed in Microsoft Word or another Word processor;
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0include the heading \u2013 Dominica Past and Present;
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0be written in Standard English and errors corrected;
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0relate to the given theme;
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0have a coherent and logical structure;
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0be original.<\/p>\n
Judging is based on:
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0purpose;
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0message and interest;
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0neatness and error detection and correction;
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0mood;
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0form and flow of information;
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0originality;
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0choice of words;
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0impact;
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0overall structure.<\/p>\n

Please encourage your students to participate as they will be receiving:\u00a0 a laptop (first prize), an e-book (second prize) and $100.00 (third prize).<\/p>\n
The deadline for receipt of entries is midnight, on April 30th 2011.<\/p>\n
