Baroness Patricia Scotland<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Corruption, domestic violence, and sexual violence are some of the main areas where The Commonwealth is placing its force.<\/p>\n

This was according to Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Baroness Patricia Scotland who was delivering the keynote address during the 35th Conference of Caribbean Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors Congress held at The\u00a0InterContinental Dominica Cabrits Resort & Spa in Portsmouth, under the theme\u00a0“Your Protection, Our Mission”.<\/p>\n

Concerning the cost of corruption, the Secretary-General reported on the organization’s direct approach.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn our Commonwealth, we also know that we have to do more on anti-corruption, the difference between the money we have and the money we need to deliver the sustainable development goals is the sum equivalent that stiffens off by corruption,\u201d she remarked. \u201cAnd we have tackled it and we have created the Commonwealth anti-corruption bench-marks\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

She also mentioned the \u201cNO MORE” campaign to end domestic violence and sexual violence, identifying it as central in combatting domestic and sexual violence and their effects.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne in three women in our world suffer from domestic violence at some stage in their lives,\u201d Scotland stated, \u201cBut we know that there is an economic cost to that violence and we are determined to address it.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cIt\u2019s in our work to understand, harness, and master the most profound technological advancement in the history of human civilization to ensure that all our countries and their people can share in the economic potential, to ensure that we capitalize on its capacity for transformational climate change action and to maximize its benefits to minimize its risks to the whole society and to ensure that the commonwealth 1.5 billion young people under the age of 30 have the skills and confidence to shape their future.\u201d<\/p>\n
