{"id":321598,"date":"2024-05-01T10:15:03","date_gmt":"2024-05-01T14:15:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/?p=321598"},"modified":"2024-05-01T10:15:03","modified_gmt":"2024-05-01T14:15:03","slug":"tourism-minister-lauds-role-of-insurance-in-recovery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/governance\/tourism-minister-lauds-role-of-insurance-in-recovery\/","title":{"rendered":"Tourism Minister lauds role of insurance in recovery"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_321599\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-321599\" style=\"width: 642px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-321599\" src=\"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Denise-Charles-Pemberton.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"642\" height=\"603\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-321599\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Denise Charles Pemberton<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tourism Minister Denise Charles-Pemberton has challenged insurance and financial advisors to develop products and services that are more affordable and within the range of the average man.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She made that statement while addressing the 35th Conference of the Caribbean Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors Congress held at The InterContinental Dominica Cabrits Resort &amp; Spa in Portsmouth, on Monday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cYou need to ensure that insurance coverage is accessible to all our citizens across the region who are in need of that extra layer of protection,\u201d she urged. \u201cYou have a responsibility as insurance to increase the chances of individuals, households, and communities to recover financially post-disaster and have peace of mind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She said insurance therefore plays a critical role in ensuring that income and property can be preserved and transformed in the event of death, helping to create generational wealth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cYou need then to look more closely at how you can adapt the pricing strategy to implement well-designed, unrestricted policies that encourage our citizens to buy into your services as an investment in their health, long-term safety, and future prosperity of their families,\u201d she advised.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She went on to state that the local associations also have a role to play in ensuring that their members are kept up-to-date with insurance as well as the use of innovative technologies to advise their clients appropriately.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI am a firm believer in the financial stability that insurance provides to individuals and families,\u201d she noted. \u201cLet us together take full responsibility for the collective security of our region\u2019s people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, Charles-Pemberton indicated that the past years have proven that climate change is at the core of the threats to the sustainable livelihoods of citizens. According to her, every sector of the economy therefore, including health, tourism, infrastructure, agriculture, renewable energy, and small business is being restructured to achieve sustainable development in Dominica.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe have boosted our healthcare system by constructing state-of-the-art hospitals and wellness centres across the island,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, Charles-Pemberton mentioned that in the continued campaign against non-communicable diseases and other illnesses,\u00a0 the government of Dominica stands strong.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe believe that citizens should have access to affordable healthcare that mirrors their need from village to village,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She said also that one must therefore consider continuous risk reduction measures and improvement to our natural infrastructure to combat the adverse financial effects on lives and property.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cFortunately in the aftermath of devastating storms and hurricanes this government was able to show the significant chunk of the pot to help its citizens, restore their livelihood and property,\u201d Charles-Pemberton noted.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI acknowledge our efforts, that had it not been the payout in excess of $800 million from the insurance companies our country would have taken a bigger and harder financial blow,\u201d she said. \u201cYou were able to fulfill your financial responsibility to policy owners, helping in the process to safeguard our economy and demonstrated the importance of insurance to the financial stability of any country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While she acknowledges this important contribution, Charles-Pemberton took the opportunity to challenge those present to maintain this focus on supporting individuals and communities that are most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Tourism Minister Denise Charles-Pemberton has challenged insurance and financial advisors to develop products and services that are more affordable and within the range of the average man.
