{"id":321735,"date":"2024-05-02T15:23:44","date_gmt":"2024-05-02T19:23:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/?p=321735"},"modified":"2024-05-02T15:23:44","modified_gmt":"2024-05-02T19:23:44","slug":"improvements-to-water-area-1-will-soon-be-completed-says-dowasco-gm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/homepage\/homepage-carousel\/improvements-to-water-area-1-will-soon-be-completed-says-dowasco-gm\/","title":{"rendered":"Improvements to  &#8216;Water Area 1&#8217; will soon be completed, says DOWASCO GM"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_252969\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-252969\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-252969\" src=\"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/DSC_7850-642x967.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"964\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-252969\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bernard Ettinoffe<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>General Manager of the Dominica Water and Sewerage Company Limited (DOWASCO), Bernard Ettinoffe has announced that the upgrade of the company\u2019s main water system in \u201cWater Area 1\u201d is expected to be fully completed within the next two months.<\/p>\n<p>He made the announcement during a press conference held at the Ministry of Finance Conference Room on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the Government of Dominica has contributed $31 million to the company over the last few years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Caribbean Development Bank made a loan to DOWASCO in 2014 for the upgrade of DOWASCO\u2019s main water system in the area referred to\u00a0 as Water Area 1, with the intake at the Springfield River and that system supplies water to Mero, all the way to Castle Comfort,\u201d Mr. Ettinoffe said.<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u201cWe are talking here of a $24 million loan with the Government of Dominica and DOWASCO contributing an additional $9 million to see that project through fruition. And I am pleased to report today, that within the next two months that project will be fully completed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He mentioned that the upgrade involves improved filtration systems, so that when it rains and the water gets turbid \u201cwe will no longer have to be shutting off water as frequently as we had to do in the past.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ettinoffe said further that there will be ungraded systems facilities, storage tanks, and intakes so that it becomes a more reliable water system.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"General Manager of the Dominica Water and Sewerage Company Limited (DOWASCO), Bernard Ettinoffe has announced that the upgrade of the company\u2019s main water system in \u201cWater Area 1\u201d is expected to be fully completed within the next two months.
