Hugh James<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Hugh James, a former prison officer in Antigua and Barbuda, with over 12 years of experience, was caught smuggling drugs into the penal facility where he once worked.<\/p>\n

Upon his arrival at the Coronation Road facility for his scheduled shift, he was apprehended by a guard stationed at the gate who detected the odour of drugs emanating from him as he passed through the “red gate.”<\/p>\n

Following a thorough search, drugs were discovered on James, leading to his subsequent arrest.<\/p>\n

He appeared before the court on Monday, admitted to the crime, and was sentenced to two months in prison.<\/p>\n

In a separate incident in 2021, Howard Segree, a former prison warden, faced charges for attempting to convey contraband into the prison, including cannabis valued at $423.<\/p>\n

Segree was allegedly caught with the illicit substances, along with tobacco and wrapping paper, concealed in a Contigo cup during his entry into the facility on June 1 of that year.<\/p>\n
