The 2024 National Chess Championship recently concluded after 9 rounds of round-robin matches, crowning the top players in both the men’s and women’s tournaments. In the men’s division, Robert Bridet claimed 1st place with 7 points, followed closely by Jones Murphy in 2nd place with the same score. Larry Thomas secured 3rd place with 6 points, while Nigel Francis and Lyndon Auguiste took 4th and 5th place with 5.5 and 5 points, respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the women’s side, Ayani Casimir emerged victorious with 7 points, earning her the 1st-place title. Liudmila Domennova followed in 2nd place with 6 points, and Zahidu Henry secured 3rd place with 4 points after 7 rounds of Swiss matches.<\/p>\n

The top five players from each tournament will have the honor of representing Dominica at the 45th Chess Olympiad in Hungary in September 2024. This prestigious event will showcase the talent and skill of these exceptional players on an international stage.<\/p>\n

The Dominica Chess Federation, via statement, extended its gratitude to the sponsors who made the championship possible, including Ocean Edge Development, Big Edge Financial Services, DoIt Center, Dr. Robinson’s Family Dental Practice, Bluesky Realtors, Dunstan Ducreay, Dr. Damien Dublin, J Astaphans & Co., and the Dominica State College.<\/p>\n
