Secondary school students in Dominica have begun writing the Caribbean Certificate of Secondary Level Competence (CCSLC) exams this week. According to Registrar of the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) Magalie Celestine, Monday 10, June 2024 marked the start of the exams.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201cThis is an exam administered at middle school three years after the Grade six National Assessment and two years before the CSEC [ Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate],\u201d she said .\u201cThis exam really helps the Ministry of Education, teachers, principals, and parents to assess the competencies of their children.\u201d<\/p>\n
She continued, \u201cIt gives you an idea as to their progress thus far, in preparations for CSEC.\u201d<\/p>\n
Celestine said further that the students are writing seven different subjects for the CCSLC exams.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have English, Mathematics, Spanish, French, Integrated Science, Social Studies and Digital Literacy,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n
She went on to state that for the first time, there are two schools writing the Digital Literacy exams, specifically the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School and the Castle Bruce Secondary School.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are very happy for that and we are looking forward to more schools coming on board for digital literacy, which is such a pertinent subject in the social media era that we are living in, so that our students can conduct themselves appropriately,\u201d Celestine stated.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, she pointed out that nine students are registered for the Caribbean Vocational Qualifications (CVQ) in garment production for today, Tuesday, June 11.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis comprises six students from the Goodwill Secondary School and three students from the North East Comprehensive School,\u201d Celestine revealed. \u201cAnd for the first time, the North East Comprehensive School is coming on board to take part in the CVQ exams and we are very grateful and thankful for that.\u201d<\/p>\n
She continued, \u201cWe look forward to excellent results coming from all nine students.\u201d<\/p>\n
Celestine added that there is a very efficient team at the Goodwill Secondary School headed by Mrs. Jean-Jacques, and Miss Thomas at the North East Comprehensive School.<\/p>\n
