The Commonwealth Disabled People\u2019s Forum Youth Network has welcomed Youth Advocate and President of the Dominica Persons with Disabilities(DAPD) Judy Sango as the newly elected Caribbean representative. The Commonwealth Disabled People’s Forum Youth Network is a network led by young people from different Commonwealth countries. Their role and responsibility is to continue to advocate for the inclusion of persons with disabilities, specifically young people. It is a branch of the Commonwealth Disabled People\u2019s Forum,\u00a0 located in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n
Speaking with Dominica News Online(DNO) Judy Sango said she is filled with gratitude and joy for this incredible opportunity which will allow her to serve and advocate for the youth of the Caribbean. She said there must be the inclusion of young people with disabilities, they must continue to advocate for themselves and for others with
\nvarious disabilities.<\/p>\n
Miss Sango expressed her gratitude for being elected as the Caribbean representative of the CDPF, \u201cI want to express my deepest thanks to God for blessing me with this opportunity and to my family and friends for their unwavering support. Your love, encouragement, and belief in me have been my guiding light throughout this journey. I am
\ntruly grateful for each and every one of you.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to Sango, as she embarks on this new chapter, she is filled with eagerness and enthusiasm to work alongside fellow young people to create a more inclusive and accessible world for all. Together, they possess the power to break down barriers, uplift each other, and advocate for positive change in their communities and beyond.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am humbled and honored to have the platform to amplify the voices of disabled youth in the Caribbean and beyond. This is just the beginning of what promises to be an inspiring and impactful journey, and I am excited to see where it leads. Let’s come together and make a difference, united in our mission to create a brighter and more inclusive future for all,\u201d Sango added.<\/p>\n
In 2023 Commonwealth Disabled People’s Forum Network commenced its youth leadership course and Judy Sango was one of two Dominicans who were fortunate to be selected for that course.<\/p>\n
Sango said following the Youth Leadership Course a group chat was created and there were always discussions of establishing the Youth Network, based on the understanding that there is a need for young people to continue the advocacy work that has started with those who have been there long before.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the decision was made to establish the youth network young people were asked to state whether or not they were willing to run for elections and send in their biography. Being the young person I am, always willing to serve the community of persons with disabilities in whatever way I can. I decided to submit my biography and state my
\nwillingness not even knowing whether or not any other young person from the Caribbean would step up. I specifically decided to run for the Caribbean representative position. When I submitted my biography and declared my willingness to serve when elections were held, I ran unopposed, and I attained the position of Caribbean representative,\u201d\u00a0 Sango explained.<\/p>\n
Sango said, \u201cThe role as Caribbean representative is to represent the Caribbean in whatever way I can and continue to amplify the voices of young people throughout the Caribbean. Recognizing that young people of the Caribbean face numerous challenges. So… I essentially have to be the voice for the people of the Caribbean. This is a role I take very seriously as a leader in the disability community.\u201d<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Sango added that her new role will impact the Dominica Persons with Disabilities (DAPD) positively, and she is very fortunate to be a part of DAPD which is near and dear to her heart. As the representative this will assist DAPD to foster networks with other Commonwealth countries and continue to amplify the voices of Dominican youth. The aim is to have an equitable and inclusive society not just for Dominican youth, but youth with disabilities throughout the commonwealth in general.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlso whatever I do for other Caribbean countries I will definitely include DAPD.
