The government of Dominica has asserted that it is committed to the development of comprehensive legislation that allows for safe access to cannabis products for medicinal and therapeutic use. This will create economic opportunities for growers and processors of the cannabis plant, stated the Minister of Finance Hon. Dr. Irving McIntyre during the 2024\/2025 National Budget presentation in parliament on Friday.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">McIntyre said the government demonstrated in 2022, its commitment to formalizing the sector by appointing a national task force to review existing legislation and develop a regulatory framework for the control, and distribution of cannabis and its various byproducts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u201cTo enable Dominica to fully capitalize on and benefit from the economic potential of growing medicine and cannabis industry, a consultant legal draft person has been engaged to draft the legislation required to provide the solid legal foundation and framework necessary,\u201d McIntyre noted.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition, upon this submission and passage of this legislation through parliament, \u201cWe will proceed with the development of a facility for the regulated cultivation and processing of cannabis byproducts for export including oils, beauty and skin care products,\u201d he added.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">McIntyre explained, that this initiative aims to create a sustainable industry with significant potential for generating revenue, creating jobs, and attracting investment opportunities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u201cAlso in this fiscal year we will establish a cannabis authority and appoint a board of directors to oversee and manage the cannabis industry,\u201d he added.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to McIntyre, for assistance and guidance through the launching of this new industry. \u201cWe will engage Dr. Marshall Emmanuel a Dominican-born expert on cannabis as a consultant advisor.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Emmanuel has provided similar advice relating to cannabis, to several other countries.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"As the world capitalizes on the benefits of cannabis and its byproducts, Dominica will come on board.
