During a site visit at the Douglas-Charles Airport recently, Tourism Minister Denise Charles-Pemberton expressed confidence that the extension and grooving of the Douglas-Charles Airport runway will open doors to more source markets and larger aircraft.<\/p>\n

She revealed that Dominica has set an ambitious tourism goal, of 500,000 visitors by 2030.<\/p>\n

“To some that may seem like a large number, but for Dominica it represents the horizon of what we can achieve,\u201d said the minister.<\/p>\n

According to Charles-Pemberton, access has always been one of the greatest challenges to reaching these goals.<\/p>\n

\u201dToday, through the extension and grooving of our runway we are addressing this challenge head-on,\u201d she stated. \u201cWe have already made significant progress\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cTogether we are building something world-class, something that stands out to global standards.\u201d<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Charles-Pemberton explained that the extension of the runway to 1,936 meters is not just an improvement, \u00a0it\u2019s an achievement.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt represents our ability to expand beyond the current routes, giving us the capacity to welcome larger [aircraft] that carry more passengers, more cargo, and more fuel,\u201d she noted. \u201cThis extension means that Dominica can now offer direct flights, not only to Miami, but as far as from New York.\u201d<\/p>\n
