An official statement from the University of the West Indies (UWI) indicates that the institution will uphold its annual practice of recognizing the significant contributions of distinguished individuals from the region. For 2024, the University Council has sanctioned the awarding of 13 honorary degrees during the graduation ceremonies scheduled across UWI’s five campuses. <\/span><\/p>\n

The recipients of these honorary degrees have established notable careers in various fields, including advocacy, medicine, tourism, culture, sports, business, education, science, and music. The graduation ceremonies are set to occur from October 12 to November 9. Below is the schedule of ceremonies and the list of honorary degree recipients:<\/p>\n

Five Islands Campus \u2013 October 12<\/b>
\n– Sir Curtly Elconn Lynwall Ambrose from Antigua and Barbuda, recognized for his contributions to cricket \u2013 Doctor of Laws (LLD)
\n– His Excellency Ambassador Dr. W. Aubrey Webson from Antigua and Barbuda, honored for his efforts in human rights advocacy \u2013 Doctor of Laws (LLD)<\/p>\n

Cave Hill Campus \u2013 October 19<\/b>
\n– Dame Susan Dilys Dougan, Governor General of St. Vincent and The Grenadines, acknowledged for her public service and contributions to education \u2013 Doctor of Laws (LLD)
\n– Sir Trevor Hassell from Barbados, recognized for his contributions to medicine \u2013 Doctor of Science (DSc)
\n– The Most Honourable Elton Deighton Elombe Mottley from Barbados, honored for his contributions to culture and the arts \u2013 Doctor of Letters (DLitt)
\n– Mr. Ralph Taylor from Barbados, recognized for his work in the tourism sector \u2013 Doctor of Laws (LLD)<\/p>\n

St. Augustine Campus \u2013 October 24 to 26<\/b>
