{"id":329694,"date":"2024-10-01T19:20:29","date_gmt":"2024-10-01T23:20:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/?p=329694"},"modified":"2024-10-01T19:20:29","modified_gmt":"2024-10-01T23:20:29","slug":"police-week-kicked-off-with-appeal-to-officers-to-deepen-community-engagement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/homepage\/homepage-carousel\/police-week-kicked-off-with-appeal-to-officers-to-deepen-community-engagement\/","title":{"rendered":"Police week kicked off with appeal to officers to deepen community engagement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-329697 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Screenshot_20241001_180713_Gmail-642x813.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"810\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Minister for Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience and Social Security Dr Irving McIntyre while representing the prime minister at the official opening ceremony of \u2018Police Week\u2019 2024,\u00a0 encouraged police officers to continue to serve and protect with fairness, integrity, and courage.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ceremony was held at the Police Headquarters on Monday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The activities for police week began on Sunday, September 29, with a church service in St Joseph and will culminate on October 5, 2024.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis week and beyond I encourage each of you to recommit to the ideals you embraced when you joined the police force to serve and protect with fairness, integrity, courage, empathy, and compassion, always striving to maintain societal order, public safety, and community trust,\u201d he encouraged.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Dr. McIntyre, the importance of community cannot be overemphasized.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBuilding strong trusting relations with the public fosters cooperation and creates a safer, more cohesive environment for effective policing,\u201d he stated. \u00a0\u201cYour theme for this week\u2019s observance reflects this and I urge you to continue pursuing community engagement, through open days, exhibitions, and outreach programs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, he said strengthening the bonds between the police and the community is essential, \u201cand I look forward to seeing your community policing program grow as you continue to meet the needs \u00a0of the citizens that you serve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A gospel night is planned for Tuesday, October 1. On Wednesday, October 2, the police will hold a block meeting in Grandbay and a \u2018history night\u2019 on Thursday, October 3.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Friday, October 4, morning there will be a police week run from Champagne, in Point Michel to the Police Headquarters in Roseau.
