The languages of Kalinago, Kw\u00e9y\u00f2l, and Kokoy from Dominica will be highlighted during the 11th Annual E.O. LeBlanc Memorial Lecture, organized by the University of the West Indies (UWI) Global Campus Dominica in collaboration with the Division of Culture.<\/p>\n

This event is scheduled for Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. in the UWI Auditorium. The panel for this year includes: Mr. Prosper Paris, discussing \u201cMabricka! The impact of the Kalinago on language in Dominica and the Caribbean”, Mr. Raymond Lawrence and Mrs. Ophelia Marie, presenting \u201cPa as\u00e9 pou yo: The development of Dominica\u2019s Kw\u00e9y\u00f2l language\u201d,\u00a0 Mr. Emanuel Prince, addressing \u201cA Fuh A Wi: The role of Kokoy in Dominica\u2019s cultural landscape.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr. Kimone Joseph, Head of UWI Global Campus, Dominica, notes, \u201cIn recent years, the theme of Dominica\u2019s History Week during Independence Celebrations is reflected in the theme of the E.O. LeBlanc Memorial Lecture. And this
\nyear is no different. We will seek to explore the influence of three of Dominica\u2019s native languages: Kalinago, Kw\u00e9y\u00f2l and Kokoy on our culture. Of course, each one has its own unique and rich history. Yet, what makes it most interesting is
\nthat they, like us, blend to form expression and a heritage that is truly Dominican.\u201d<\/p>\n

The E.O. LeBlanc Memorial Lecture series is part of the National Independence Calendar, emphasizing cultural themes to honor the contributions of Edward Oliver Le Blanc, the first Premier of Dominica, who was passionate about culture and was known for his love of reading and poetry.<\/p>\n
