Tree planting as part of the activities celebrating Earth Day<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Dominica will the join the rest of the world in observing Earth Day, on Friday, April 22, 2011. Earth Day is intended to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth\u2019s Environment.<\/p>\n

This year the day is celebrated under the theme \u2018A Billion Acts of Green\u2019; a people-powered campaign to generate a billion acts of environmental service and advocacy before Rio +20.<\/p>\n

As part of activities leading to Earth Day, a tree planting ceremony organized by the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) was held at the Roseau Primary School where the students of the 4-H Club, with the guidance of proper planting tips from Mr. Cyril John, Forester 1 of the Division of Forestry, added a sugar apple tree to their flourishing school yard garden.<\/p>\n

The DDA encourages all to incorporate sustainable practices in their daily activities; use only the water you need, dispose of solid and liquid wastes and medications safely, buy locally or grow your own, learn about composting, save energy at home by choosing energy-saving appliances, reduce, reuse and recycle.<\/p>\n
