The Dominica Dementia Foundation and the Dominica Psychological Society will host their first dementia-friendly event, Walk & Lime, today, Sunday, November 24, 2024. The event will take place from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, with participants gathering at the Cruise Ship Berth on the Bayfront by 3:45 pm.<\/p>\n

The Dominica Dementia Foundation, founded in 2016 by Rianna Patterson, is dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals affected by dementia. The organization has been a vital resource in Dominica, providing support and services to those living with dementia and their families. The foundation has also been involved in raising awareness about dementia and advocating for dementia-friendly policies.<\/p>\n

During the Walk & Lime event, participants will walk to the Botanical Gardens next to the Pavilion, where the “Limin” segment of the event will continue. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in an open mic session, enjoy refreshments, and dance to the tunes provided by DJ Shan. T-shirts with the theme “Limin is great for your mental health” will be available for purchase.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the event is to promote a safe and inclusive environment for persons living with dementia, promote mental health wellness, and encourage self-care. The event is sponsored by various local organizations, including Petro Caribe Dominica, Dominica Air and Sea Ports Authority, Arden Sounds, Rueben’s Bakery, Bullseye Pharmacy, Josephine Gabriel & Co Ltd, Jolly’s Pharmacy Ltd., Triage Health, and Dominica State College.<\/p>\n

The Dominica Dementia Foundation has been instrumental in supporting care homes during Hurricane Maria and presenting research on dementia at international conferences. The foundation’s mission is to improve the quality of life for people living with dementia by offering a wide range of services, raising awareness, and fostering a compassionate community.<\/p>\n

The Walk & Lime event will not only celebrate International Men’s Day but also highlight the pressing issue of dementia in Dominica.
